Introduction

What is a comment?

In the new grading tool, users can add three types of comments:

• Annotation
  Digital equivalent of a marginal note. Can be posted / shared in channel.
  
  
• Page note
  Associated comments and/or tags with a document (Question / Answer / Question Set) without anchoring that information to a passage within the document. Can be posted / shared in channel
  
  
• Replies
  Refers to one of those other annotation types, or to a prior reply, and can include text and/or tags
  
  
• Private Text Highlights 
  Digital equivalent of swiping a yellow marker over a passage of text. Can not be shared with any channel

Annotations are created by selecting text

Who can post comments?

In version 0.4.0 planners and graders can post comments in various channels / categories. More on this below.  Students can only read comments given by graders and / or planners, and only if actively shared with them. 

How are comments shared with students?

Comments appear in two features, and made available by the Workspace scheme, in two ways:

• In the comments sidepanel in Submission feature 
• In the new Comments list feature.

For a student to be able to view comments from graders and planners, two conditions must be met: 

• A workspace containing Submission feature and / or Comments list must be visible to students. In the Workspace Scheme Version 0.4.0, students workspaces are automatically shared with candidates when Test setting "comments are shared" is enabled. 
• The test setting: Share comments with students has been enabled. 
  
  

Where can I add comments? 

The comments panel is available as a right panel in the submission feature. 

Annotations are created by selecting text and clicking "Annotate"

Page notes are created by clicking the Add page note button:  

The submission feature includes for tabs that allow commenting the following ways:

• Answers / Response
  Tab displaying the current candidate response in current question
  Support for text annotations and page notes in both HTML and PDF based answers
  Response text / code in Programming and Code Compiler can not be annotated in version 0.4.0. Page notes are available. 
  
  
• Questions
  Displaying current question without candidate response
  Support for text annotations and page notes in HTML based questions
  
  
• Attachments
  Displaying file uploaded as attachment to candidate in Monitor.
  If attachment is in PDF format, then annotations and page notes can be added
  Annotations and page notes not available for other file formats

• Section stimulus (Not available in version 0.4.0)
  Displaying section stimulus for current section
  Support for text annotations and page notes in HTML based section stimulus
  
  
• Question PDF panels (Not available in version 0.4.0)
  Displaying PDF panel in current question
  Support for text annotations and page notes in question PDF panel
  
  
• Plagiarism reports (Not available for comments)
  Tab displaying plagiarism report for current candidate question
  Annotations and page notes not available

Who can see my comments, and when?

Annotations, page notes and dialogues happen in something we call channels. Depending on role, content type and configurations, users have access to view, post and / or read contents in a given channel.
